Discovery knows the importance of working with staff across the entire organisation to ensure that their career objectives are regularly discussed and used a focal point for planning their professional development. All our schools and teams have access to an annual career development and professional learning plan which is completed by each member of staff alongside their line manager. The plan provides an opportunity for every member of staff to reflect on their current role and consider where they might want to go within the next 3-5 years. This coaching style conversation leads to a meaningful dialogue between the employee and manager and ensures that all staff professional development is centred around their goals and how they can bring about more impact for the children and adults they work with. Each member of staff owns this plan and reviews this with their manager 4 times per year adjusting as they progress.
We are passionate about making sure we have a flow of talented people and this process allows Discovery to support school leaders and managers in the central team to carefully plan next steps for staff as a part of a trust wide a process. This process helps us to ensure that there are talent pathways in place for staff who are looking for career progression and increased responsibility and equally helps staff to focus their learning on something that makes them more impactful.
