Get into Teaching

A passion for teacher education

Since the inception of Discovery  in 2012, we have been committed to becoming a provider of high-quality initial teacher training (ITT) to ensure that our schools have a flow of talented new teachers to recruit from. We know at Discovery that if we want children to have the best possible education that they need to be taught by the best teachers. The way we can ensure happens is to train our own.

In 2014 we became a government accredited provider of ITT, called Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training with our partners at Flying High Trust and have since been recognised by Ofsted as an outstanding provider. In 2022, Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training was reaccredited, to continue to deliver high quality teacher training for the foreseeable future. Our programme is school centred with a focus on learning whilst you are based in schools and from our best leaders and subject experts. We work closely with the University of Leicester to award PGCE for our trainees and are recognised as a great place to train to teach by our trainees and schools.

Each of our schools is committed to hosting, training and mentoring new teachers and since 2012 our partnership has trained  primary teachers, many of whom have been employed in our schools and continue to thrive today.

First class training

“The training programme is first class. Specialists, including Headteachers, senior leaders and specialist leaders of education (SLEs), are involved in the delivery. Trainees gain a multiplicity of opportunities to develop as practitioners, including in a range of differing, often challenging, school contexts. Trainees and NQTs said that their training was thorough and of extremely high quality.”

Inspiring leaders

Inspiring leaders teacher training (ILTT) is an accredited ITT provider which offers outstanding teacher training across the East Midlands for aspiring primary and secondary teachers.

Led by Discovery we work alongside our close partners from the Flying High Trust and Redhill Trust who provide training in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. All partners share the same belief that every child deserves an outstanding education, and this begins with an outstanding teacher. ILTT strives to provide the highest quality training and development experiences for all our trainees in order to provide those outstanding, child-centred teachers and leaders of the future.

Training the best teachers for the system

Our SCITT leaders work tirelessly to ensure that all trainees get a high quality, personalised experienced and excellent support in the early stages of their career. We have a combined belief that as a teacher training partnership we should provide the best possible teachers for schools in East Midlands and our schools employ those who excel during the training year into our partnerships. We know that brilliant teachers make a huge impact upon a pupil’s outcomes which underpins our passion for training teachers to be the best they can be.

Inspiring professional journeys

Our partnership is built upon a combined commitment from all to ensuring that teachers access a high-quality professional journey which begins before their teacher training programme starts and develops as their experience increases all the way through to them becoming school leaders. Our commitment is demonstrated by our delivery of school Leadership training through the broader Inspiring Leaders partnership which has now trained over 1900 school leaders since 2012. We are proud to report that some of our earliest SCITT trainees are now moving into middle and senior leadership positions within our schools which underpins the rationale of our partnership.

Our amazing schools

Our SCITT courses involve trainees spending a larger proportion of their time learning the craft ‘on the job’ with the support of some of the best teachers in the country. ILTT currently has three outstanding teaching school partnerships as partners of our SCITT provision:

Discovery Trust – Leicestershire & Rutland

The Flying High Partnership – Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire

Redhill Teaching School Alliance – Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire

Our partnerships have well established wider networks of over 120 primary, secondary and SEND schools across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Rutland where you could be placed for your teacher training year. The strength, experience and capacity of our schools makes our partnership the success that it is.

Excellent University partnerships

To provide our trainees with Masters level training experience we have developed close working partnerships with Nottingham Trent University and The University of Leicester both of whom work with our leaders and trainees to provide excellent research informed PGCE study options. All of our trainees are provided with access to PGCE programmes which is dovetailed into our SCITT taught programme. Many of our trainees pass with MA level credits with some moving onto achieve their full MA in education following the completion of the course.

Creating positive relationships

‘Fab training sessions with experts in their area of learning, supportive class mentors and learning coaches and being able to exchange ideas with other trainees. Most importantly working with children, creating positive relationships which impacts on their love of learning!’
