Teacher Professional Development

At the heart of our offering to schools is a range of teacher and expert lead CPDL for our schools to access. We are committed ensuring our work is research informed and rooted in school practice and led by SLEs and other system leaders who are quality assured by the alliance. We want our CPDL to be collaborative where possible and to provide our staff with the key learning experiences they need to ensure they are effective in their roles.

We are committed to providing our teachers and leaders with individual Career Plans and access to high quality coaching conversations to ensure they are accessing the CPDL they need to support their learning. All of our CPDL is designed based upon the needs of our staff, the needs of their pupils and our wider school improvement priorities.

Once we have a clear view of what our CPDL needs are we begin to build our content. At the core of our offer each year schools can expect to access:

  • Early Career Programme, including NQT and RQT training with appropriate body support
  • Subject Leader Networks in all subject
  • Specialism networks including Pupil Premium, Year 2 and Year 6
  • Moderation sessions for subject and year groups
  • Research Collaborative Learning Projects linked to TSA Priority Areas
  • Teachmeets, Conferences and events
  • Subject Leader Training
  • Leadership Development programmes through Inspiring Leaders
  • Training for ITT Leads in schools
  • Specialist CPDL for SENDCOs and Support staff from EPIC (Link to website)

Inspiring Leaders NPQ Programmes

Affinity TSA is a core partner of Inspiring Leaders a license holder for the National Professional Qualifications in school leadership. All member schools benefit from discounted access to the following:

  • NPQML
  • NPQSL
  • NPQH
  • NPQEL
  • Residential Leadership Conference
  • MAT Leaders Network

Details about these programmes and the work of Inspiring Leaders can be found by clicking here.

Diversity Programmes

Although the teacher workforce as a whole is gradually becoming more diverse, progress towards greater diversity at leadership levels remains especially slow. Despite their dominance of the school workforce overall, for example women are less likely to become Headteachers than their male counterparts, especially in the secondary phase. BME teachers, too, are underrepresented at all levels of school leadership.

The Equality and Diversity Fund exists to close these gaps, making the best use of all available leadership talent in the workforce.

Affinity TSA has successfully accessed funding to run 3 projects to enable support for marginalized groups to access leadership development training. We offer the following 3 projects and below is a description of who they are for:

Leadership Now – for Maternity Support

  • Our flexible programme is for any female staff members considering a leadership role within the next 12-18 months.
  • Designed specifically for colleagues working part time, returning from maternity or currently on maternity leave.
  • Ideal for colleagues wanting to develop their reflective leadership skills, self-belief or confidence.

Step Ahead – Moving into Headship

  • Headteachers or Aspirant Leaders who wish to find practical solutions to some of the stressors or barriers effecting their work or career progression
  • School leaders who are considering leaving the profession who wish to access a supportive network.
  • Ideal for colleagues wanting to develop their reflective leadership skills, self-belief or confidence.

BAME Leadership Support Programme

  • Aspirant school leaders with BME Heritage who wish to think about their career progression into leadership roles
  • Teachers from BME backgrounds who are facing some perceived barriers to career progression who wish to learn from others about how to be successful.
