Inspiring Leaders

Inspiring Leaders is a regional partnership of MATs based in the East Midlands of which Discovery Trust was a founding partner in 2012.

Inspiring Leaders

Discovery is a one of four strategic partner MATs who have been the driving force behind the partnerships work since 2012. Working closely with leaders of the strategic partner MATs below, Discovery has been able to create leadership opportunities and partnerships supporting the trusts ongoing development. Discovery has contributed to the training over 4000 school leaders in the region and over 450 new teachers. Our strategic partners are:

  • Redhill Academy Trust
  • Flying High Trust
  • Djanogly Learning Trust
  • And other supporting partner trusts & alliances.

The partnership

Our core purpose is to ensure that every child to be taught by a well-trained teacher who works within a strong, sustainable, and ambitious academy trust. Since 2022 the partnership has become a regional partnership of MATs supporting the development of executive leaders and supporting MATs to become strong and sustainable.

As a strategic partner, Paul Stone acts as Director of the group helping shape the partnerships strategy, operational success and seeking new opportunities for the partnership to develop. We also ensure that other Discovery leaders play a role in the development of programmes and events so that Discovery can shape the delivery of programmes to work for our schools.

Leadership training

Inspiring Leaders is a leading provider of school-based leadership training, licensed by the DfE to deliver NPQML, NPQSL, NPQH and NPQEL across the East Midlands and Yorkshire regions.

What does Inspiring Leaders do?

Our mission is to become the partnership of choice for aspirant teachers and MAT Leaders in the region. Providing teachers and leaders with a high-quality, collaborative, professional development offer.

Inspiring Leaders provides two key functions for the education sector:

  1. The provision of high-quality Initial Teacher Training (ITT) capitalising on the benefits of working with a range of MATs, ensuring we have the very best experts delivering our training and benefitting from the economies of scale that are provided by working across the region. We train over 80 Primary and Secondary phase teachers per year through a school-based teacher training programme, delivered by practicing teachers and leaders and since 2015/16 have trained over 450 teachers, many of whom work in our partner schools.
  1. Leading a rich community of practice for our partner MATs, enabling executive leaders the opportunity to learn with and from each other. We do this because we know that MATs are stronger when they work together, and we are passionate about helping MATs become strong and sustainable. Our partnership serves MATs in the East Midlands and a small number who are on the fringes of the region who collectively educate over 90,000 young people.

As part of this we also deliver or provide access to:

  • Signposting to NPQ programmes through our Teaching School partners.
  • Opportunities for School leaders to become trained facilitators and lead on programme delivery
  • Leading an annual residential leadership conference which play a large role in shaping so it benefits our schools
  • Research trips both with the UK and oversees to explore how others lead in different contexts and to expand our thinking.
  • Create an engaging and challenging community of leaders who can help us to continuously improve

The partnership is of great value to Discovery and ensures that we continue to improve year on year.
