Supporting your child in the early stages of learning to read

Monday 4th April 2022

7pm GMT

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go" - Dr. Seuss

Reading is an essential life skill and teaching children to read opens a world of opportunities. Studies show that reading makes a big difference to children’s educational performance.  In fact, a child’s ability to read is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background.

As a parent, you are your child’s most important educator and have the potential to make a huge difference to their outcomes.

During this Discovery Live, we will share with you tools to support your child in the early stages of learning to read.

We will share:

  • An understanding of key terminology used in phonics
  • An understanding of National Expectations and the stages of phonics teaching and learning
  • An understanding of how phonics is taught in schools
  • A bank of ideas you can use at home to support your child
  • An understanding of reading fluency and strategies that help to build this
  • An understanding of reading comprehension and skills that link to this
  • Ways to develop reading for pleasure

We hope you can join us for this Discovery Live on Monday 4th April at 7pm.
