I wanted to begin a journey into working within education through a different route.
A typical day at Woolden Hill would be to start with some non-contact time to either work on course work or to develop my work which could be to observe or go on courses or go to lessons with my course. I also worked in the classroom to get experience for my level 3 Teachers assistant and then I would also deliver all the PE across the school. I would also attend Wrap around care delivering sports clubs and other extracurricular activities.
Learning practically and every day is different.
In September I hope to be accepted on the teaching and learning course at Northampton Uni and train to be a class teacher whilst being the sports coach at Woolden Hill.
Best thing I could have done to get to where I want to be. The school has been absolutely amazing and supported me on every step of the journey.
I applied for an apprenticeship as it allows you learn new skills while also implementing them into everyday tasks and situations. It also allows you to earn money while also learning. I chose to apply for the business administration apprenticeship as I had an interest in business studies at school.
A typical day starts with various attendance tasks such as speaking with parents about children’s absences or listening to the answerphone messages. The registers then start to be completed when the children have arrived which I need to check to make sure all have been done. Throughout the rest of the morning I then complete a variety of tasks such as filing finance documents, checking off orders that have arrived or charging parents for children’s dinners. This time can also be used to complete apprenticeship work. In the afternoon, registers must be checked again to make sure all have been done and I can then continue with any tasks that had not been completed in the morning until the end of the day.
The things I enjoy most about my apprenticeship are getting to work with the children at the school, gaining new skills while also earning money, being able to implement skills that I have learnt into everyday tasks and building positive relationships with other staff members who I am working with.
I hope to continue to progress within the business administration sector and gain experience in a variety or environments such as in businesses but also in secondary schools.
Make sure to work hard, take advantage of opportunities you are given and make sure you have someone that you are happy to ask for help when needed.
I wanted to go into business sector but everywhere wanted experience. I thought an apprenticeship was the best way to go and when I saw this one advertised and it was local I applied.
I don’t think there is a typical day at work. My role varies massively and sometimes you never know what the day will bring you. Most of the time my day consists of admin duties like answering the phone, responding to emails etc. But there are plenty of times where I will also be doing something completely different as well.
The thing I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is getting to learn new skills, and also getting to learn on the job. Getting first hand experience allows me to have more knowledge on the type of activities I have to do. My colleagues in the office are always very helpful and supportive of my learning which makes my apprenticeship more enjoyable.
To continue learning new skills linked to business administration duties and to build on my knowledge.
If it is a sector that you are wanting to learn more about and have on the job training then I would recommend it.
